There are seven weeks before the Barkley and I am not running. I have a 2nd degree high ankle sprain of my anterior-inferior-tibia-fibula ligament. Basically, my tibia and fibula are being held together by the tape job around my leg. Am I worried? Mildly. Have I lost my optimism? Not yet!
I have these words written on the whiteboard above my desk where I sit all day with my leg raised.....
PATIENCE, DETERMINATION, STRENGTH OF MIND
I need these words to get me through the agonizingly slow rehabilitation in the same way I need these words to get me through the Barkley 100 miler. So, maybe this is OK. And when I get the green light to run......watch out! I am going to cram the most amazing, strategic, hardcore training into a few desperate weeks.
In the meantime, ice, ibuprofen, strapping tape, spin classes, self-talk, daily physio sessions, and the PhD studies are my closest friends.
